US blue-chips slipped, while the broader market edged higher on Friday after the Federal Reserve injected cash to shore up the banking system and ease anxieties about the subprime mortgage crisis. Central banks in Europe, Japan and Australia also made billions available.

The number of electronic trades on the London Stock Exchange reached new highs during July, with a total of 12.1 million trades carried out on SETS during the month, an increase of 96 per cent on July 2006. The value traded increased by 77 per cent to £191.1 billion. The average daily number of trades was up 87 per cent on last year to 551,447, while the average daily value traded grew 69 per cent year on year to £8.7 billion.

The number of July IPOs dropped to four compared with eight in July 2006. The highly anticipated IPO of China's Nineyou International Limited, an online game company, was postponed. By market, OSE Hercules accounted for two July IPOs and JASDAQ and Fukuoka Q-Board for the other two. There were no TSE IPOs, making July an extremely quiet month. Furthermore, there were only 77 IPOs during the first seven months of 2007, well below the 101 offerings during the same period of 2006.

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. announced its consolidated market performance statistics for the NASDAQ Market Center for the month of July.

The rollercoaster ride on Wall Street continues; on Monday stocks shot-up as investors bought into beaten down shares of financial companies. The markets also got a boost from speculation the Federal Reserve may take steps to reassure investors at its policy meeting.

NYSE Euronext reported record transaction volume in U.S. and European trading operations in July 2007 in addition to impressive gains in new listings, including IPOs, closed-end funds and ETFs. Average daily volumes of 3.1 billion shares handled on NYSE Group resulted in year-over-year gains of 22.8% while more than 28 million transactions were recorded on Euronext cash markets in July 2007, up 87.9% year-on-year. Liffe registered its busiest July ever, with trading up 41.1% from a year-ago. Equity options total volume on NYSE Arca Options increased more than 56% year-over-year, while average daily volume in July improved by 84% year-on-year.

A rollercoaster week came to a depressing end on Wall Street Friday after negative news from Bear Stearns shook the wider market.

NYSE Euronext reported net income of $161 million, or $0.62 per diluted share, for the three months ended June 30, 2007, a 164% increase as compared to net income of $61 million, or $0.39 per diluted share, for the three months ended June 30, 2006. These results are presented in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Subprime worries and concerns about tighter credit standards kept a lid on the markets Thursday, before earnings enthusiasm eventually won pushing US markets to another late-day rally.

CME Group, the world's largest and most diverse exchange, announced July volume averaged 11.2 million contracts per day, up 40 percent from July 2006, assuming CME and Chicago Board of Trade volumes were combined for the full month. On this basis, total monthly volume exceeded 235 million contracts. Electronic volume represented 79 percent of total exchange volume. Total options volume averaged 2.0 million contracts per day, up 16 percent from July 2006. Electronic options volume averaged 348,000 contracts per day, up 69 percent from the same period a year ago, representing 19 percent of total CME Group options volume.
