NYSE Euronext Business Summary for March 2008

NYSE Euronext (NYX) reported strong transaction volume growth in U.S. and European trading operations in March 2008, with double-digit increases in trading volume across all of NYSE Euronext’s products and exchanges compared to the same period in 2007 and year-todate. Additionally, NYSE Euronext’s cash equity exchanges in Europe and the U.S. achieved new all-time quarterly volume records for the quarter-ended March 31, 2008 with 103 million transactions and 191 billion shares traded, respectively.

World Stock Markets: Higher in Asia, Lower in Europe

World stock markets have ended with a mixed score: higher in Asia, lower in Europe and all but sideways in the US. For the second day in a row US markets finished with small gains of less than half a per cent: plenty of analysts are saying 'buy' the worst is over, but the euphoria of Tuesday doesn't seem to have taken deep root in investor sentiment.

US: Dow Jones Index Up 20

The market is finishing off the week in a "comfortable" mood - up 19. The SFE Futures suggested a 14 point rise in the market this morning. It's a bit like Christmas Day in the trenches. The OPES war has exhausted us all and football has broken out.

CME Group Reports First-Quarter 2008 Volume Averaged a Record 13.7 Million Contracts per Day, Up 32 Percent

CME Group, the world's largest and most diverse derivatives exchange, announced first-quarter 2008 volume averaged a record 13.7 million contracts per day, up 32 percent from first-quarter 2007.

International Monetary Fund Has Cut its Forecast for Global Growth

The market has done well this morning compared to Wall St and despite the 142 point rally yesterday - up 42 this morning. The SFE Futures suggested a 21 point rise in the market this morning reflecting a better performance from commodities overnight and a small drop in financials.

World Markets Are Up

Sharemarkets finished the second day of the second quarter generally upbeat, although Wall Street was a touch easier as investors couldn't make up their minds about the outlook for the economy.

US Market Is Coming Back - Up 148

The market having a great day - up 148 – on the back of Wall Street's big session overnight. The SFE Futures sugggested a 176 point rise in the market this morning.

US Market Fell 145 Or 1.17% For The Week

Dow Jones closed down 86 on Friday - The market fell 145 or 1.17% for the week and it's looking likely that the quarter will boast the biggest drop since 2002 (which was then followed by the start of a 4½ year bull market).

Xinhua Finance/MNI China Business Survey: Rebounds

The data, as well as comments from companies that took part in the survey, indicate that Chinese companies have largely recovered from the storms, with indexes measuring production and new orders rising from February levels. The new orders index hit its highest level since October last year.

US Market Is Down 80

Dow Jones closed down 120. Two days of 100+ point falls have followed a two day 448 point rise. It was down 128 points at its low and up 54 at its best. The main issue a weak GDP number (but in line with expectations) and financial weakness. Final GDP for Q4 07 +0.6% after 4.9% growth in the previous quarter.
